# Universes

A Universe is one campaign, club, ballot issue or project in Hubble. A candidate who runs for office, a local political club and a ballot initiative each get one Universe.

Each Universe keeps its own data: contacts, lists, canvasses, events, emails, donations and more.

## Who owns a Universe

A [Federation](/fundamentals/federations.md) owns each Universe. The license of the Federation sets which hubs the Universe can use.

A Federation can have more than one Universe. The data of one Universe is not visible in the other Universes, unless they are in the same [Multiverse](/fundamentals/multiverses.md).

## Roles

Each person in a Universe has a role. The role controls what the person can see and do.

Each role can do all of the tasks of the roles below it in the table. It can also do the tasks in its own row.

| Manager               | The person who runs the Hubble account of the campaign.       | Write and send email. Manage the website. Invite anyone, and change the role of all people below Manager. | Treasurer             | The person who approves the money.                            | Delete finance records and give refunds. Edit and finalize disclosures and reporting periods. Connect Stripe and ActBlue. Keep access when the campaign is frozen.                                                        |
| Deputy                | The person who keeps the books.                               | Record contributions, expenses and pledges. Reconcile bank accounts and start disclosure reports. Run fundraising call time. See the **Finances** tab of a contact.                                                       |
| Volunteer Coordinator | The person who organizes the field work.                      | Build lists and cut turf. Create and edit canvasses and call sessions. Write scripts and track leads. Manage the vault and delete documents.                                                                              |
| Worker                | Staff who run the daily programs.                             | Build forms and workflows, and download submissions. Read and reply in the shared inbox. Search the voter file. Assign turfs again, and edit yard sign requests.                                                          |
| Volunteer Manager     | The person who recruits volunteers and makes their schedules. | Invite volunteers and approve requests to join. Assign volunteer duties. Create and edit events, manage RSVPs and do check-in.                                                                                            |
| Intern                | A person who finds and updates contacts.                      | Search all contacts, with their notes and voter history. Add and edit contacts, phone numbers, emails and addresses. Print walk lists and work in all call sessions. Export lists to CSV and to mailing labels.           |
| Volunteer             | A person who does only the work that you give them.           | Work the turfs, call sessions, text sessions and postcards that you assign to them. Follow up with their own leads. Record donation asks and pledges for their leads. Send messages to the campaign from their dashboard. |

The Treasurer and Deputy roles need the Finance Hub.

The Owner of the Federation can do all tasks in each Universe. Federation members have the same role in every Universe of their Federation. You do not add them to each Universe.
